What is 2-DG?

2-Deoxy-D-glucose (2-DG) is a synthetic derivative of glucose in which the hydroxyl group on the second carbon atom has been replaced with a hydrogen atom. Thanks to this modification, the molecule mimics glucose but cannot undergo full metabolism via glycolysis.
